Description

It’s a little hard to read in the picture but the sign (which was almost certainly painted in either Bud Hurlbut’s shop or by Don Treece in the Knott’s sign shop reads “Knotts Berry Farm Merry Go Round. It was Michael Dentzel who introduced the Carousel to America from Germany around 1880. The Carousels were build in Germantown Pennsylvania. This is one of Dentzels earliest models showing the fine craftsmanship of its time….beyond duplication today. The original oil paintings around the cornice shows the skills of the decorators. There are 52 hand carved animals, also twin chariots which were popular in the past. The entire moving weight is carried by a large wooden center pole and frame of clear spruce. Many generations to come will enjoy this well preserved entertainment device.”
