Ca. 1900 E. Joy Morris Zebra – SOLD
There are maybe 10 or so known E. Joy Morris zebras. This figure stands as large as a typical outside-row horse, yet has very simple ‘inside row’ trappings. One theory is that possibly this zebra’s position was inside of a singular stand-out, outside-row figure, like a lion or tiger. This figure was taken off of a Coney Island Carousel (painted as a horse) in 1941. This is the paint it had then. Remnants of the black and white from the stripes can be seen beneath. The figure was with the same owner for 7 decades.
