PTC #87 Asbury Park – SOLD
Ca. 1930-32
Second Row Jumper
Restoration and paint by Pam Hessey.
This jumper can be seen on p.152 of “Art of the Carousel” (second row left behind the signature stander), which dates the carousel as circa 1932. The carousel operated at The Casino at Asbury Park until the animals were sold off in 1984 (though the mechanism would continue with replacement figures).
This jumper is among the last horses carved by PTC, and was aboard No. 87, the last original carousel the company would build.
Then, some 50 plus years after it was carved, thanks to the popularity of plastic reproduction figures in the 1980s, 1990s and beyond, this regal Asbury Park jumper, with its nice layered trappings, would become one of the most reproduced horses of all time.
