Early 1880s Original Paint Looff Stander
Very early Charles Looff stander. This horse was one of 13 from the same carousel that were owned by Duane Perron. Mr. Perron kept 12 of them and sold only this one through his 1979 sales brochure. He listed it as outside row. Later listed and sold in Guernsey’s June 1993, Carvings – A Comprehensive Auction (catalog page 58). Guernsey’s listed it as “original factory milk-based paint”. Mr. Perron indicated to the owner that he acquired the horses from King Ried Lefevre’s widow, he of the King Reid Shows. The location(s) of the original carousel hasn’t been determined. Horse hair tail and stand.
