CA 1896 Looff/Murphy Jumper

Large jumper in very old paint, carved by either Timothy Murphy or possibly by him while working for Charles Looff. Many features are identical to the “First Murphy” including the jewels containing the horse head emblem which is also found on some early Looff figures (see CN&T articles from August 2011 and 2012 about the Murphy brothers and the history of the Baton Rouge carousel). Rode on the Baton Rouge carousel from 1927-1944 and then placed into storage. One layer of park paint. From the collection of Carlos Sardina who purchased them out of storage in the 1980s. Horse hair tail and stand.
