Late 1800s Looff Stander
Middle row. Classic early Looff with sweet dish shaped face, eagle cantle, rare right front leg raised (instead of left). Last operated on a carousel at Glendale Park near Nashville, TN, 1888 to 1932. The whereabouts of this machine from that date was unknown until some of the horses reappeared in the mid 40’s as window and store decorations at Harvey’s department store. The Harvey stores closed in 1988 and the horses were sold at auction. See articles from The Carousel News and Trader April 1989 and July 1989. This horse purchased at Guernsey’s NYC auction, Dec. 10, 1988 in park paint. Fully restored by Keith Jamieson in 2015. Pole and stand included.
