E Joy Morris Signature Lion from
Lakemont Park, Altoona, PA. – SOLD

*(Dispersed at auction in 1982).

This Incredibly rare and beautiful carousel lion wears the incredibly rare E. Joy Morris Company signature on the ribbons coming from the cantle on its hind quarter. It reads:

“E. JOY MORRIS MFR
902 WALNUT ST PHILA PA” 

With the ribbon carefully carved in such a way as to have it seem “Philadelphia” is spelled out, just not visible the way the ribbon is twisted.

“With the utmost respect to so many other figures, and so many horses, this became on sight my favorite carousel figure of all time – well, there are a few, but this is right at the top. (Before that it was E Joy Morris as well — the ‘Leaping Lion’ from Skylon Towers).”
