1912 Illions Stander Sword & Scabbard Stander

This fine example of the Illions-style of carvings in the 1910s-era is featured in the book, Painted Ponies, on page 239. The caption points out the overall artistry of the restorer, Peggy Sue Seehafer, and in particular, her expert paint treatment of the “disproportionate lower body and legs. Although it is nice that the artistry is highlighted, it seems this horse was a bit unfairly singled out, when most all horses from most all carvers had some disproportionate issues. And many beautiful horses with greater proportion issues that his regal Illions early-style, partial armored sword and scabbard stander.

The owner notes that there is a small chip in the rear right hoof.
