Horse carved by Anderson for the Savage Gallopers that last operated on Clacton Pier, Clacton-on-Sea, England.

The figures and ride were prominently featured in the book Fairground Art

Clacton-Pier-outdoor-amusements-2013-by-Rwendland“Arthur Anderson’s horses are remarkable for their individual character and frequently violent imagery which sometimes assumes a nightmarish quality, such as the horse[s] on Mike Goss’s Gallopers on Clacton Pier. …

“The eagle was a favorite motif and the eternal battle between the eagle and the serpent was probably this carver’s favorite theme with victory alternating between the two protagonists, as the [shown horses] from Mike Goss’s Gallopers demonstrate.”
– Fairground Art, Geoff Weedon and Richard Ward. Pgs. 39-40.
