1890s Looff Stander – SOLD

Circa 1891 Looff Stander – SOLD

Outside row horse with warriors on saddle cantle and shield on shoulder. From a Manguls/Illions – Looff carousel that first operated on Coney Island. The carousel worked in New Haven, CT in 1938, then it was in storage for 20 years. This horse was stripped of paint in 1983 and was on display at Gimbel’s for Christmas in 1984. Repaired and restored by Raymond Jones, former NCA president and master carver, and repainted by Tom Layton in 1989. Glass jewels are original.
